1941-1950 Time Line:

1941: Attack on Pearl Harbor.

1942: T-shirt introduced.

1943: Oklahoma! The first musical written by the famous Rogers and Hammerstein opens on Broadway.

1944: Ball point pens go on sale.

1945: Atom Bomb dropped on    Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  Both Germany and Japan surrender. End of World War II.

1946:  Winston Churchill give s his “Iron Curtain” speech.

1947: Anne Frank’s “Diary of a Young Girl” is published..

1948: Germany divided into East and West.

1949: First non-stop flight around the world.

1950:  First “Peanuts” cartoon strip.

April 2014 Outfits of the Month – The 1930’s!

Wow! As you will read below, a lot happened in this decade.  It was hard to choose just one event per year!  My dear grandmother passed away last month at 91 years.   She was one of the few young women in her small town to join the Navy and serve in World War II.  It is  amazing to me how much this generation did and how great they looked doing it!

animated cartoon.

1939: World War II begins.

1940: Nylons on the market.

Easter BOGO

Anybody else watching Downton Abbey?  This was a fun one as these are the styles the ladies are wearing right now in the show.  I love the dropped waists in this decade in fashion history.  Everything looks so comfortable!

1924: First Olympic Winter Games.

1925: Hitler publishes his first manifesto Mein Kampf.

1927: Babe Ruth makes home run record.

1928: Bubble Gum invented.

1929: The Great Depression begins.

1930: The Chocolate Chip cookie is invented by Ruth Wakefield at the Toll House Inn in Whitman, MA
