Holiday Gift Guide for Creative Moms and Kids
The hustle and bustle of the holidays are here. And if you’re like me, you’re just now realizing it’s time to get serious about gifts! What better gift than to nurture creativity. If you’re looking for something that will make your favorite creative mom’s heart sing – or thinking about what might make your favorite kiddo’s creative side shine, I’ve got you covered!
I put together some great budget-friendly ideas that can be delivered to your door (or inbox) just in time for the big day.
For the Creative Mom
As a busy mom, setting aside time to really be creative can sometimes be overwhelming. This list can help get the creativity started and keep it flowing through the year.
Cricut cutting machine and supplies (great for papercrafting art projects – this would also be great for homeschooling moms too!)
The Moleskine sketchbook is the best I have used. It can handle anything from a pencil to full watercolor washes.

The A4 Lightbox is my favorite because it’s thin and so portable. I use it all the time for tracing watercolor templates but it has so many other uses.
Micron pens are known as the best of the best for durability and effect.
Arches is a great choice for quality watercolor paper (cold pressed is my favorite). Quality paper really does make a big difference, especially when you are looking to try your hand at Landscapes and full sheet watercolor paintings.
Watercolor pencils are so versatile and great for moms and littles, (no mess!). These are the best you can get but there are lots of other cheaper options that work great too.
Guoache (rhymes with wash) is a lot like watercolor but the pigment is more concentrated and SO MUCH FUN. This would be a great set to start with.
In my humble opinion, online classes are the BEST gifts for creative moms because they can be viewed anytime day or night and can be reviewed as many times as needed to learn a new skill or concept. No need to find a babysitter to attend class and no rush if there’s an interruption!
The first option I have for you is our own Nature’s Art Club! It’s a club designed to get moms and kids into art and nature through monthly watercolor projects, coloring pages, original poetry, and more. You can check it out here or just click on the photo below. And we offer gift cards too!
Another great online class offered here at Lily and Thistle is our Watercolor School course. This is designed for the complete beginner and has over 150 video tutorials to help you develop a creative practice as you learn watercolor painting.

Skillshare – Oh, mercy. I could spend all day on Skill Share! This one is great because it has hundreds of short, awesome classes that span over every aspect of creativity. From creating art to marketing and selling it. The basic concept is that everyone has a skill to share and this is the place to do it. Your first month is free. After that, you can choose to pay monthly or annually to get access to the classes on Skillshare.
For the Creative Kid
Stocking up your children’s art supplies is a practical gift that keeps on giving year around. In addition to supplies, we have some great courses perfect for children of all ages, and even offer gift certificates that can be printed and placed under the tree.
As I previously mentioned, our own Nature’s Art Club is a great gift for kids. Choose the Lifetime Access option and your kids will have unlimited access to use for year’s to come. You can check it out here or just click on the photo below. And we offer gift cards too!
The Everything Paper Dolls Bundle is a gift full of fun and nostalgia, perfect for all ages. In the bundle you’ll have lifetime access to 25 Paper Dolls (Boys and Girls), 181 outfits, and hours of fun.

If you want something to actually wrap up and give, consider some of these favorites:
This Windsor and Newton watercolor set is such great quality and compact so it’s easy to take with you anywhere. We use this watercolor paint pallet for all of our courses and it’s a great option for beginner’s (kids and moms alike!)
Mr. Sketch Scented Markers make a great stocking stuffer, and they smell yummy too!
Chalk Markers are a fun medium that can be used on chalkboards, glass, or mirrors. We love decorating our windows for the seasons, and have even had some school lessons on our kitchen window!
Arteza Fabric Marker Set is a fun gift for teens – decorate your backpack, canvas shoes, jean jackets and more!
Dot Markers (these keep my kids busy for a long time!)

Ohuhu water brushes are so great because they hold water in them. So nice when there are little people around. No more worrying about water pans getting tipped over. They’re also great for art on the go and nature study!
